Ladki Bahin Yojna KYC Update: Process & Documents

Published on

Maharashtra’s Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana Mandates a Mandatory KYC Verification Update for All Registered Beneficiaries to Continue Receiving Monthly Financial Assistance of ₹1,500 Beneficiaries Must Link Their Aadhaar to Their Bank Account and Complete the eKYC Process at the Nearest Seva Kendra, Anganwadi Centre, or Aaple Sarkar Portal to Ensure Uninterrupted Monthly Transfers

The Ladki Bahin Yojna KYC Update is a mandatory re-verification process that the Maharashtra government requires every registered beneficiary of the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana to complete to prevent suspension of the ₹1,500 monthly Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) payment credited directly to the beneficiary’s Aadhaar-linked bank account.

The scheme launched by the Maharashtra government to provide direct financial support to economically weaker women aged 21 to 65 years across the state has made KYC compliance a prerequisite for continued disbursement, with authorities citing the need to eliminate duplicate registrations, inactive accounts, and ineligible claimants from the beneficiary database.

Reports suggest that women who have not completed their KYC update face a temporary hold on their monthly payment until the verification process is complete and authenticated.

Why the KYC Update Is Mandatory

The KYC update requirement directly ties to the central government’s DBT framework, which mandates Aadhaar-based authentication for all government benefit transfers to prevent leakage and ensure funds reach genuine recipients.

Maharashtra’s Women and Child Development Department introduced the KYC verification round after identifying discrepancies in the beneficiary database including inactive bank accounts, mismatched Aadhaar details, and outdated mobile numbers that were preventing successful payment delivery.

The verification process also targets the removal of beneficiaries who no longer meet eligibility criteria, including those whose family income has crossed the declared annual limit or who have taken up government employment since the time of original registration.

Who Needs to Complete the KYC Update

Every active registered beneficiary of the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana must complete the KYC update regardless of whether they have been receiving payments regularly. Women who enrolled during the initial registration phase in 2024 as well as those who joined during subsequent application windows all require fresh KYC authentication to continue receiving the ₹1,500 monthly benefit.

Reports suggest that beneficiaries who have already linked their Aadhaar to their bank account and whose DBT payments have been arriving without interruption may still need to confirm their status at the nearest Aaple Sarkar Kendra, as passive compliance does not automatically count as active KYC completion under the revised verification guidelines.

Documents Required for KYC Update

Beneficiaries must carry the following documents when visiting the designated centre to complete the KYC update process:

  • Aadhaar Card — mandatory for biometric or OTP-based identity authentication; the Aadhaar number must match the one used at the time of original registration
  • Bank Passbook or Bank Account Statement — the account must be in the beneficiary’s own name and linked to her Aadhaar number through the bank’s CBS system
  • Ration Card — serves as proof of family income classification and household size for re-verification purposes
  • Mobile Number linked to Aadhaar — required for OTP-based eKYC; if the registered mobile has changed, it must first be updated at an Aadhaar enrolment centre before KYC proceeds
  • Registration Acknowledgement Slip — the slip or application ID received at the time of original Ladki Bahin Yojana enrollment confirms the beneficiary’s application number
  • Photograph — recent passport-size photograph for physical verification at offline centres

Step-by-Step KYC Update Process

Beneficiaries can complete their Ladki Bahin Yojna KYC update through two routes — offline at a government centre or online through the state portal:

Offline Method at Seva Kendra / Anganwadi Centre:

  1. Locate the nearest Aaple Sarkar Seva Kendra, Anganwadi centre, or Gram Panchayat office designated for Ladki Bahin Yojana KYC processing
  2. Carry all required documents listed above in original form along with one set of self-attested photocopies
  3. Submit the documents to the verification officer, who enters the beneficiary’s Aadhaar number into the KYC system
  4. Place your finger on the biometric scanner for Aadhaar fingerprint authentication — or request iris scan if fingerprint fails
  5. Confirm the mobile number and bank account details displayed on the screen match your current records
  6. Collect the KYC completion acknowledgement slip as proof of successful verification — retain this slip for future reference

Online Method via Aaple Sarkar Portal:

  1. Visit the official Maharashtra government portal: aaplesarkar.mahaonline.gov.in
  2. Log in using your registered mobile number and Aadhaar-linked credentials
  3. Navigate to Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana under the Women and Child Development Department section
  4. Select KYC Update from the beneficiary services menu
  5. Enter your Aadhaar number and request the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number
  6. Enter the OTP and confirm bank account details for eKYC completion
  7. Download or screenshot the confirmation page as proof of successful online KYC update

Common KYC Errors and How to Fix Them

The following errors cause KYC failure and require resolution before re-attempting the process:

Aadhaar–Bank Account Mismatch: If the name or date of birth on Aadhaar differs slightly from the bank’s records — even a single letter difference — the DBT system rejects the KYC. The beneficiary must visit the bank branch and request an Aadhaar seeding correction, after which she can re-attempt KYC.

Inactive or Dormant Bank Account: Accounts that have not recorded any transaction in over 12 months become dormant and block DBT credits. The beneficiary must visit the bank, complete the account reactivation process, and then proceed to the KYC centre.

Outdated Mobile Number on Aadhaar: If the mobile number linked to Aadhaar is no longer in use, OTP delivery fails and eKYC cannot complete. The beneficiary must first visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre to update the mobile number, which takes 7–10 working days to reflect, before returning for KYC.

Failed Biometric Authentication: Worn fingerprints, injuries, or skin conditions can prevent successful biometric match. In such cases, the beneficiary can request an OTP-based authentication alternative at the verification centre.

Current Status of Payments for Non-KYC Beneficiaries

Reports suggest that the Maharashtra Women and Child Development Department has implemented a temporary hold on monthly disbursements for beneficiaries whose KYC verification remains pending, and the specific cutoff date for compulsory completion has not been publicly disclosed as of mid-March 2026.

Beneficiaries who face payment suspension after completing KYC can contact the Ladki Bahin Yojana helpline the state government has not officially announced a single consolidated helpline number for the scheme or visit the District Women and Child Development Officer’s office with their KYC completion acknowledgement slip to request manual reactivation of payments.
