Avan Tudor Jogia is a Canadian actor, author, and director born on February 9, 1992, in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is best known for his role as Beck Oliver in the Nickelodeon television series Victorious (2010–2013) and has since appeared in various films and television shows. Jogia is also recognized for his activism, particularly as co-founder of the LGBT advocacy organization Straight But Not Narrow, and for his published works on multiracial identity.

Avan Jogia was born to Mike Jogia, a British-Indian father, and Wendy Jogia, a mother of English, German, and Welsh descent. He has an older brother named Ketan Jogia, who is a music producer based in London. Besides English, Jogia speaks some Gujarati and French.
Jogia attended Killarney Secondary School in Vancouver until age 17, when he left to pursue acting full-time. His parents had previously withdrawn him from middle school in favor of homeschooling. Early Career and Breakthrough
Jogia’s first acting role came in 2006 when he portrayed Danny Araujo in the television film A Girl Like Me: The Gwen Araujo Story, directed by Agnieszka Holland. From 2009 to 2010, he had a recurring role in the Syfy series Caprica, a spin-off of Battlestar Galactica. His breakthrough came in 2010 when he was cast as Beck Oliver in Nickelodeon’s Victorious, starring alongside Victoria Justice, Ariana Grande, and Elizabeth Gillies.
Television and Film Work
Following Victorious, Jogia starred as Danny Desai in the ABC Family mystery-thriller series Twisted (2013–2014), earning two Teen Choice Award nominations. In 2015, he portrayed King Tutankhamun in the Spike TV miniseries Tut alongside Sir Ben Kingsley. He later appeared in the Syfy series Ghost Wars (2017–2018) and the Starz comedy series Now Apocalypse (2019).
His film credits include Ten Thousand Saints (2015), I Am Michael (2015), Zombieland: Double Tap (2019), and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021), where he played Leon S. Kennedy. In 2023, Jogia made his feature directorial debut with Door Mouse, which he also wrote.

In September 2019, Jogia published his first book, Mixed Feelings, a collection of short stories and poems about multiracial identity, which he illustrated himself. Beliefs and Identity
Jogia describes himself as “spiritual,” having explored Buddhism and having roots in Hinduism. He holds dual citizenship in Canada and the United Kingdom. In a 2019 interview with Attitude magazine, Jogia stated he does not feel comfortable labeling his sexuality.
Activism
In 2011, Jogia co-founded Straight But Not Narrow, an online organization aimed at changing heterosexual attitudes toward the LGBTQ+ community. He created the organization with Heather Wilk and Andre Pochon, with support from actor Josh Hutcherson. Jogia has stated that the organization seeks to make straight youth responsible for their apathy toward LGBTQ+ issues.
