The JNVST Navodaya 2nd List Class 6th 2026 also called the JNVST Waiting List 2026 will give students on the Phase 1 waiting list a fresh opportunity for admission once selected candidates fail to report within the stipulated period.
The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) announced the Phase 1 selection list on 17 March 2026 after the Phase 1 examination conducted on 13 December 2025, selecting over 50,000 students for Class 6 seats across all Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas nationwide.
Those who scored below the cut-off or were not included in the first selection list now await the 2nd merit list, which NVS will publish on navodaya.gov.in after the document verification window closes.
When Will the JNVST 2nd List 2026 Release?
Based on the official schedule, the JNVST Navodaya 2nd List Class 6th 2026 for Phase 1 is expected in April–May 2026, after the first admission and document verification process concludes. The Phase 2 examination is scheduled for 11 April 2026, and its separate selection list will release in May 2026, distinct from the Phase 1 waiting list. NVS has not publicly disclosed the exact date for the 2nd waiting list, but historical patterns suggest it arrives within 30–45 days of the first selection list.
The JNVST 2nd list appears when students selected in the first round decline their seat or fail to complete document verification, freeing up vacancies for waitlisted candidates. Parents of waiting-list students can also contact their nearest JNV school principal to confirm available seats and get advance notice of the 2nd list release.
Once NVS releases the second selection list, students can access it using these steps:
- Open the official portal at navodaya.gov.in on a browser
- Navigate to the “Admissions” or “Admission Notification” section on the homepage
- Locate the link labelled “JNVST Class 6 Second Selection List / Waiting List 2026”
- Select your region or district from the dropdown menu
- The PDF list will appear on screen — search for your name or roll number within the document
- Download and save the PDF for document verification purposes
Additionally, students may visit cbseit.in/cbse/2026/nvsrst/NVS_Cls6.aspx and enter their roll number and date of birth directly to check their updated result status, which reflects the waiting-list position.
What Is the JNVST 2nd List and Why Does It Exist?
The JNVST 2nd list — formally called the Waiting List or Second Merit List — provides admission to students who were near the cut-off in Phase 1 but did not secure a seat in the first allocation round. NVS prepares this list school-wise, filling each JNV’s vacant seats strictly in merit order until no seat remains. The Samiti selects more than 50,000 students across Phase 1 and Phase 2, but vacancies always arise because selected students sometimes move to private institutions or relocate. The 2nd list ensures no seat goes unfilled and gives more meritorious students a second chance at free, residential quality education.
JNVST Phase 1 Result and Cut-Off Overview
NVS declared the Phase 1 Class 6 result on 17 March 2026, and the region-wise selection list was distributed through respective JNV schools immediately after. For the General category, students needed to score between 71 and 76 marks (out of 100) to qualify, with the exact cut-off varying by district, region, and available seats. SC, ST and OBC category students benefit from relaxed cut-off marks, and NVS mandates reservation-based seat allocation to ensure representation across social groups. Students who scored just below the General cut-off stand the best chance of securing admission through the 2nd waiting list, as this group typically heads the secondary merit queue.
Candidates who receive confirmation through the JNVST 2nd List 2026 must carry the following documents to the JNV school on the designated reporting date:
- Passport-size photographs (recent, typically 4–6 copies)
- JNVST Admit Card (Phase 1 or Phase 2 as applicable)
- Class 5 mark sheet (or latest academic progress report)
- Date of birth certificate or Birth Certificate
- Caste certificate (for SC/ST/OBC candidates — issued by a competent authority)
- Residence/address proof confirming the student studied in the same district where the JNV is located
- Aadhaar Card of the student and parent/guardian
All documents must be original with one set of self-attested photocopies; the JNV school will not proceed with admission if any core document is missing.

What To Do If Your Name Does Not Appear in the 2nd List
Students who do not find their name in the JNVST 2nd list still have one more pathway: the Phase 2 examination on 11 April 2026, which is open to eligible students from specific states and regions not covered comprehensively in Phase 1.
Students who appeared in Phase 1 cannot re-appear in Phase 2, but those who qualified for Phase 2 will receive a separate selection list in May 2026. Parents may also visit the District Education Office or contact the JNV school principal to confirm whether additional seats remain after both lists are exhausted. Reports suggest that NVS sometimes releases a third or supplementary list at the school level if vacancies persist after the second round, though this process is not publicly disclosed through a centralised notification.
