Engine Lineup: Power and Performance

The 2026 Duster launches with two turbo-petrol engines, with a third strong-hybrid unit following before year-end:

1.0-Litre Turbo Petrol: Produces 99 bhp and 160 Nm of torque and powers the entry-level Authentic and Evolution variants. This engine pairs exclusively with a 6-speed manual gearbox and targets buyers seeking an affordable entry point into the Duster nameplate with proven turbo-petrol efficiency.

1.3-Litre Turbo Petrol: The more powerful unit generates 161 bhp and 280 Nm of torque available with both 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) automatic gearbox options across the Evolution, Techno, Techno Plus, and Iconic variants. This engine positions the Duster competitively against the Creta’s 1.5-litre turbo and the Seltos’s 1.5-litre turbo in terms of outright performance.

1.8-Litre Strong Hybrid (Coming Before Diwali 2026): The third powertrain produces 163 bhp and 172 Nm with promises of up to 80 percent all-electric driving in city conditions making it the most fuel-efficient Duster variant India has ever received. The hybrid variant targets urban buyers prioritising fuel savings alongside Renault’s brand image as a hybrid pioneer in the Indian market.

Key Features: What Every Variant Gets

The 2026 Duster brings a significantly upgraded feature set compared to its predecessor:

  • 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Google Built-In (Google Maps, Google Play, Google Assistant) as standard on higher variants
  • 10.25-inch digital driver’s display replacing the traditional instrument cluster on Techno and Iconic variants
  • Panoramic sunroof — one of the Duster’s headline features, available on mid-to-top variants
  • Ventilated front seats — a segment-first feature at this price point
  • ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) suite with 17 safety features including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, and adaptive cruise control
  • 212mm ground clearance — maintaining the Duster’s traditional off-road capability advantage over urban rivals
  • 518-litre boot space — among the largest in the midsize SUV segment
  • LED headlamps and DRLs with a fresh third-generation exterior design language
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on Techno and higher variants
  • 6 airbags as standard across all variants

The base Authentic variant carries a reduced feature set compared to higher trims specific features not available on Authentic are not publicly disclosed at time of publication.

Exterior Design: A Modern Duster Identity

The third-generation Duster retains the rugged SUV proportions that made the original a market success but adopts a sharper, more modern design language aligned with Renault’s current global design direction. The front fascia features a wide LED light bar connecting the daytime running lights, a prominent grille, and a sculpted bonnet that gives the 2026 Duster a more premium visual presence than its predecessor. Colour options available at launch include not publicly disclosed combinations, but Renault India confirmed multiple dual-tone options for the Techno and Iconic variants at the launch event.

AWD Status and Key Missing Feature

One of the most frequently asked questions about the 2026 Duster involves all-wheel drive availability a feature that defined the original Duster’s identity in India. Reports suggest AWD has not been announced for the India-spec 2026 Duster in either the turbo-petrol or hybrid variants, with the entire lineup running front-wheel drive as confirmed during the January 2026 unveiling event. This decision disappointed off-road enthusiasts who expected the third-generation model to restore the AWD system that made the Duster an adventure-capable vehicle in its original form.
